Ben Stokes out cheaply on debut for Canterbury
สโบเบ็ต England all-rounder Ben Stokes was bowled for just two when he made his debut for Canterbury on Sunday in New Zealand. Stokes is currently unavailable for England selection due to an ongoing investigation into a late-night fracas in Bristol in September. But the 26-year-old is in New Zealand to play domestic cricket and made his debut for Canterbury in their 50-over Ford Trophy clash with Otago. Having been put สโบเบ็ต into bat by Otago in Rangiora, Canterbury found themselves 5-2, with Stokes at the crease, after the first ball of the third over. Stokes only lasted seven balls, before he was clean bowled by 33-year-old left-arm spinner Anaru Kitchen to leave his new side struggling on 10-3. He flew to New Zealand earlier in the week, the place of his birth, and signed as an overseas player for Canterbury on Thursday. The Ford Trophy game was his first match for 69 days and it has been speculated that he is preparing for a possible Ashes call-up. But Stokes has maintained he is in the country on a family visit and, regarding his signing for Canterbury, he สโบเบ็ต said he was just "looking forward to getting out there and hopefully winning". Meanwhile, Avon & Somerset Police have concluded their investigation into the Bristol incident and have passed their file to the Crown Prosecution Service for advice on whether to charge Stokes. Without their key all-rounder, England lost the first Test of the Ashes series by 10 wickets in Brisbane and the second Test is currently taking place in Adelaide.
